Vol. 56 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Unemployment Insurance Umpire

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the basis on which the umpire under the Unemployment Insurance Act is remunerated; whether his duties include the determination of appeals arising under the Unemployment Assistance Act, and the number of cases referred to him for a decision under each Act during the year 1934.

The umpire appointed for the purposes of the Unemployment Insurance Acts is also the umpire for the purposes of the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933. He is remunerated by an annual fee, in fixing which regard was had to the number of cases likely to be referred to him. During the calendar year 1934, decisions were given by the umpire in 169 cases under the Unemployment Insurance Acts, and decisions were given by him in 150 cases under the Unemployment Assistance Act, 1933, during the last eight months of the calendar year 1934.
