Vol. 56 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Information from Employment Exchange.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether any instructions were issued to managers of employment exchanges to the effect that they should not furnish information to boards of health and public assistance as to whether or not a particular person registered at the exchange was or was not receiving unemployment assistance; whether he is aware that such information is properly required by these local authorities for the purpose of preventing dual payments, and whether he is prepared to enter into an arrangement with such local authorities for the purpose of safeguarding public funds.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. With regard to the second and third parts, an arrangement is in operation between my Department and the Department of Local Government and Public Health, under which the necessary information in regard to unemployment assistance is furnished by the local officers of my Department on application by home assistance officers.
