Vol. 57 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Alleged Discourtesy at Government Buildings.

asked the Minister for Finance whether his attention has been drawn to the treatment alleged to have been accorded to a Mr. Thomas Keane, Killincarrick, Delgany, who called at Government Buildings on the 13th May; if he will state whether, as is alleged, the letter presented by the person in question was torn up and he was treated with discourtesy.

I am obliged to the Deputy for giving me the opportunity of replying to this question. I assume that it relates to a recent report in the public Press of proceedings in the Metropolitan District Court during the hearing of a charge of breaking a window in Government Buildings, in which a statement of the allegations referred to in the Question appeared. There is no ground whatever for these statements. I am satisfied, as the result of inquiry in my Department, that the letter was not torn up, and that the visitor was not treated with discourtesy but with the courtesy and attention invariably shown to callers at Government Buildings.
