Vol. 57 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Restoration of Bounty on Sheep.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will take steps to reduce the tax of 5/- per head on home slaughtered sheep and lambs, and restore the export bounty on them in view of the low prices sheep and lambs are now fetching at the fairs.

The matter of the incidence of the levy on sheep and lambs slaughtered for home consumption has received careful consideration. It has been decided not to vary for the present the rates now in operation. As regards an export bounty on sheep and lambs, it is not proposed to grant such a bounty this season.
