Vol. 57 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Attendance Regulations in National Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he is now in a position to state what change, if any, he proposes to make in the "attendance" regulations governing the employment of teachers in national schools

It has been decided to amend the rules to enable recognition to be continued, for periods in addition to those permissible under the existing regulations, to assistant teachers and junior assistant mistresses of comparatively long service, in schools in which the average attendance falls below the figure required for their retention.

The additional periods of continuance will be as follows:—

For teachers of 10 but less than 15 years' service—Three quarters.

For teachers of 15 but less than 20 years' service—Four quarters.

For teachers of 20 but less than 25 years' service—Five quarters.

For teachers of 25 years' service and upwards—Six quarters.

The revised regulations, which will take effect as from the 1st April, 1935, are being prepared and will be promulgated at an early date.
