asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total value of the (a) imports from and (b) exports to Italy during (1) the 12 months ended 31st December, 1934, and (2) the nine months ended September, 1935, and if he will state the nature of the principal articles imported and exported and their quantity and value in respect of each of the two periods.

The value of the imports consigned from Italy to Saorstát Eireann in the year 1934 was £50,315 and the exports to Italy £12,863 and re-exports £437. The imports consigned from Italy in the first three months of 1935 amounted to £10,589. From 1st April imports into Saorstát Eireann have been compiled by country of origin. The value of the imports of Italian origin in the six months April-September, 1935, was £82,554. The exports to Italy in the nine months January-September, 1935, amounted to £2,834 and re-exports to £25. I am circulating with the Official Report statements giving the quantity and value of the principal items of import and export trade between the countries in the two periods.
