Vol. 59 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harvesters' Personal Luggage.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether representations have been made to him that this year for the first time West of Ireland harvesters returning from England were required to pay in addition to their regular fares a special levy for the carriage of their personal luggage; whether he is aware that this additional charge is regarded by these poor men as being unfair and unjustified, and whether he is in a position to take any action arising out of the representations referred to.

Representations from Mayo County Council in the matter of extra charges made by the Great Southern Railways Company for the conveyance between Westport and Achill Island of the luggage of harvesters returning from England have been received only this morning. I will have inquiries made and inform the Deputy of the result.
