Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Death of King George V—Messages of Sympathy.

asked the President whether he received any message or messages from the head of any foreign State or Government in connection with the death of the late King; and, if so, what was the text of such message or messages and of the reply thereto.

The following message was addressed to the Seanascal by the President of the United States:—

"On the occasion of the death of his Majesty King George I wish to extend to your Excellency and to the people of the Irish Free State on behalf of the people of the United States and in my own name an expression of sincere sympathy in your great loss."

The following message was sent in reply:—

"I am very grateful for your Excellency's kind message of sympathy on the death of his Majesty King George V."

I received the following message from the Secretary of State of the United States:—

"I wish to offer you an expression of my sincerest sympathy on the occasion of the death of his Majesty King George."

I sent the following message in reply:—

"I am very grateful for your Excellency's kind message of sympathy on the death of his Majesty King George V."
