Vol. 60 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Prices of British Coal.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he can state in respect of each month in 1935 the average price realised by British collieries for coal of each description (a) sold for consumption in the British domestic market, (b) exported to continental ports, (c) exported to ports in Northern Ireland, and (d) exported to Saorstát ports.

I regret that the information available to my Department does not enable me to furnish the information the Deputy desires. The only information in my Department in regard to the average price of coal realised by British collieries relates to the quarterly (and not the monthly) price of coal disposable commercially, and is published in the United Kingdom Mines Department Statistical Summary. In the first three quarters of 1935 the average prices per ton at the colliery of coal disposable commercially were as follows:—Quarter ended 31st March, 1935, 13s. 6.40d.; quarter ended 30th June, 1935, 13s. 2.85d.; quarter ended 30th September, 1935, 13s. 1.99d. The average price for the fourth quarter of the year is not yet available. These returns do not distinguish descriptions of coal, or whether destined for home consumption or export.
