Vol. 60 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Quota for Cured Herrings.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether it is proposed to seek for any quota for Saorstát cured herrings in any future trade agreement with Germany and, if so, when the next trade agreement with that country will be negotiated.

Negotiations for a trade agreement with Germany are at present taking place. It would be opposed to normal practice to make any public statement in relation to the matters under discussion until the negotiations have been completed.

Does the Minister for External Affairs not feel free to say that it is the policy of the Government to seek a market in Germany for cured herrings if it were possible to get it?

I am not free to say anything.
