Vol. 60 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Roscommon Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands whether representations have been made to him to acquire the Levinge Estate at Newpark, Kiltoom, County Roscommon; whether he is aware that the owner, through her solicitor, refused to rent any part of these lands to landless men and uneconomic holders residing in the neighbourhood; that by direction of the owner, who is an absentee, the lands will be sub-let in grass only; and whether, in view of the plight of a number of local people who have not enough land to raise food for themselves and their families, he will take steps to acquire this estate without delay.

The Land Commission have not until now had any representations regarding the manner in which the lands referred to are being used. Inquiries will be made with a view to the consideration of the question of their acquisition.
