Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Clare Bog Slide.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that a bog-slide at Dromandoora, Feakle, County Clare, last year rendered the land in the vicinity useless; if he is further aware that the Land Commission are collecting annuities from the owners of these lands, and if, in the circumstances, he will issue instructions for the cessation of such collection or in the alternative take steps to provide a grant-in-aid for those affected.

The Land Commission have sanctioned a grant-in-aid of the work of clearing the part of the lands affected by the bog-slide at Dromandoora. There is no power to forego payment of the land purchase annuities charged on these lands.

Is the Minister aware that some of the people are destitute because of the destruction of these lands?

The Land Commission is giving a grant-in-aid towards clearing the lands.

Might I ask the Minister to make inquiries as to the circumstances of the people concerned?

The Land Commission has inquired into the matter and is giving a grant-in-aid towards the clearing of the lands covered by the slide.
