Vol. 60 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Schools in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Education if a reply has been received by his Department that the hard hit parishioners of Durrus were unable to contribute the sum of £350 asked for towards the erection of new schools at Gortalassa and Gouladuv, but that they were prepared to contribute the equivalent in free labour, by the supply of stones, sand and gravel, and if in view of this valuable contribution he will undertake that the erection of the new schools, to replace the present insanitary schools, will be proceeded with at once.

My Department is prepared to accept, as a local contribution towards the cost of the new schools to be erected at Gortalassa and Galladoo, the supply and delivery free on the sites, of the stone, sand and gravel required for the buildings and the manager has agreed to provide a contribution in this form. Plans and specifications for the new schools have been prepared by the Office of Public Works and steps will be taken immediately to invite tenders from contractors.
