Vol. 61 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flour Stocks.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in respect of each flour mill the quantity of flour on hands at March 1st, 1936; how long it is assumed the present stocks will last, and if he is prepared to discontinue the issuing of licences for the importation of foreign flour.

I am not in a position to state the quantity of flour held by flour millers on the 1st March, 1936, but the total of the quantities held by them on the 29th February, 1936, was 167,493 sacks of 280 lbs. This stock represents about three weeks' consumption. I am not prepared to disclose the stock held by individual mills. For some considerable time, licences have not been issued for the importation of flour save in the case of flour intended for the manufacture of biscuits.

Is there any reply to the latter portion of the question?

No licence has been issued, other than for biscuit manufacturing purposes, since last July.
