Vol. 61 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tobacco Growing in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state how many acres of tobacco were grown by registered growers in the year 1935 in the County of Donegal and whether he has issued any licences to grow tobacco to any persons resident in County Donegal for the year 1936, and, if so, to how many licensees and in respect of how many acres.

One and a half roods of tobacco were grown in County Donegal by licensed growers in the year 1935. No licence to grow tobacco in the year 1936 has yet been issued to a resident in County Donegal. One applicant who applied for permission to grow two roods has been informed that a licence will be issued to him on payment of the licence duty (5/-).

Did the Minister say roods or acres?

I said roods.

Can the Minister say how many square yards?

Not wishing to be rude, the Deputy, I suggest, can find that out for himself.

Is the Minister in a position to say when the applicant was notified that a licence to grow two roods would be issued on payment of the appropriate fee?

I am afraid that the Deputy will have to give me notice of that question.
