asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of savings certificates (principal only) outstanding at 31st March, 1936.

I propose to take Questions 15 and 16 together. The Exchequer receipts in respect of savings certificates during the quarter ended the 31st March, 1936, were £147,000. The repayments of principal in that period were £132,000 and interest payments amounted to £41,000, making a total of £173,000. The principal outstanding on foot of savings certificates at the 31st March, 1936, was £7,753,000, approximately.
