Vol. 63 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shop Hours.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is his intention to introduce proposals for legislation to implement the Report of the Commission on the Registration of Shops and, if so, will he include in such proposals regulations governing the opening hours of shops, the working hours of shop assistants and the proper enforcement of the weekly half-holiday provided for in the Shops Act, 1912.

It is my intention to introduce legislative proposals arising out of the Report of the Committee of Inquiry into the Registration of Shops. It is my intention also to promote as a separate measure legislation for the better regulation of hours of work in shops.

Can the Minister give us any information as to the approximate date on which he intends to introduce legislation?

I am not in a position to do that.
