Vol. 63 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Farmers in Mountainous Districts.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what has been the result of the consideration which he said, on the 5th May last, was being given to the position of farmers in poor mountainous districts, and whether he will now give favourable consideration to the memorial which he received from the farmers of the parish of Tuosist, County Kerry.

Dr. Ryan

The memorial to which the Deputy refers is receiving the careful consideration of my Department but I am not yet in a position to make any announcement as to the steps that may be taken to give special assistance to farmers in poor mountainous districts.

Mr. Lynch

Will the Minister give us any idea as to when this careful consideration will produce some result? It has been under consideration for the last four months.

Dr. Ryan

It will not take very long more.

Mr. Lynch

How long?

Dr. Ryan

Well, not another four months.

May I take it that the Cereals Bill is one of the steps that is going to help these farmers?

Dr. Ryan

That is one of them.
