Vol. 63 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Scheme in Cahirciveen.

Mr. Lynch

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether in view of the fact that the arrears in the cottage rent collection in the Cahirciveen district of County Kerry are considerably lower than the average arrears throughout the county as a whole, he will sanction the housing scheme for the workers in Cahirciveen.

Although the arrears of cottage rents in the Cahirciveen district are not so unsatisfactory as in other areas in County Kerry they have increased from £204 in March, 1933, to £262 in September, 1935, and £302 at the end of last month (the average monthly rental is £30). Until there is definite evidence that the board of health and public assistance intend to carry out their duty in the matter of rent collection I am not prepared to sanction further housing schemes under the Labourers Acts in the Kerry county health district.
