Vol. 63 No. 14

Poulaphouca Hydro Electric and Waterworks Scheme.

Before we proceed with the business, I should like, if I may, to ask the Acting-Minister for Industry and Commerce if he intends to introduce the necessary legislation in connection with the Poulaphouca hydro electric and waterworks scheme before the Dáil adjourns for the summer Recess, so that Deputies would be able to study the Bill during the Recess?

The legislation to which the Deputy has referred is in course of preparation. I cannot say definitely that it will be placed before the House before the adjournment, but even if it is not, I hope it will be in the hands of the Deputies during the Recess.

Would not the Minister be able to introduce the Bill before the adjournment, and give it a First Reading, so that it could be issued to the Deputies as soon as it is ready?

That is the intention.

Perhaps those for whom I speak quite appreciate the difficulties in the Minister's way, and are quite satisfied that he and his Department are doing all that is possible to expedite the matter, but they also feel that if the permission of the Dáil were given to the introduction of the Bill, it would meet the present requirements until the Dáil reassembles. Perhaps the Minister will be able to arrange to have that done.
