Vol. 64 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cheap Meat for the Unemployed.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what steps have been taken or are in contemplation to secure the continuance of a scheme for providing cheap meat to unemployed persons after the expiration of the Slaughter of Cattle and Sheep Act, and whether he can indicate the nature of the proposals in contemplation, if any.

Dr. Ryan

I would refer the Deputy to my statement on this subject during the Committee Stage of the Slaughter of Cattle and Sheep (Amendment) Bill, 1936. The details of a substitute scheme are at present under consideration by the Minister for Local Government and Public Health.

Are we to understand from that answer that the proposed amending scheme is to be administered under the Central Government by the Department of Local Government?

Dr. Ryan

That is right.
