Vol. 64 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amendment of Teachers' Superannuation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is now in a position to state definitely when proposals will be put before the Dáil for the amendment of the Secondary Teachers' Superannuation Scheme, in order to provide for secondary teachers, ex-members of the scheme, who are deprived under the scheme of all right to pension by reason of being disemployed for two consecutive years.

An actuarial inquiry is at present being held into the position of the Pension Fund established under this scheme, and I would prefer not to make a definite announcement regarding the amendment of the scheme until the actuary's report has been received and considered.

Could the Minister give me any idea as to when he expects, first, to receive the actuary's report; second, to consider it, and, third, to be in a position to answer my question?

I cannot say when the actuary's report is likely to be received, and I cannot, therefore, answer the remaining part of the Deputy's question.

Is the Minister of the opinion that the actuary's report will gravely affect the decision on the particular point that he knows is in question here?

I am informed that the position is that no decision can be made until the report is available as to whether an amending scheme can be brought in.
