Vol. 64 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply for North Cork Schools.

asked the Minister for Education whether he has received any requests for Grants-m-Aid for the purpose of providing a water supply for national schools from the North Cork Board of Health, and, if so, whether it is intended to accede to the requests owing to the necessity of installing proper sanitation in the schools.

Applications have been received by my Department from the North Cork Board of Health for a contribution towards the cost of providing a well and pump for a supply of water for the pupils of Kilmurry and Farahy National Schools. Both these schools are non-vested and as grants are not admissible for works of improvement to non-vested schools, my Department has not been able to accede to the request of the board of health in the matter. A proposal is before my Department for the vesting of Kilmurry National School and for the improvement of the school premises. In connection with the scheme of improvements the question of the provision of a supply of drinking water for the pupils will be considered. In the case of Farahy National School, there has been no application received so far for the vesting of the school, but I will have the matter investigated.
