asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the total number of males in receipt of (1) unemployment assistance, (2) unemployment insurance, and (3) registered on the live register during the week preceding Monday, 25th January, 1937, in each of the employment areas: (1) Dublin and Dun Laoghaire, (2) North Leinster, (3) South Leinster, (4) North Munster, (5) South Munster, (6) North Connacht, (7) South Connacht, (8) Ulster, and their percentage of (1) the total number of males, and (2) the total number of males 12 years of age and upwards in each of these areas.

As far as they are available the particulars which the Deputy requires will be circulated with the Official Report. It should be noted that the live register figures relate to the persons registered at local offices, whether resident within each specified area or not, whilst the numbers of the population as ascertained at the 1936 census of population necessarily relate to place of residence. The census statistics of the numbers of males 12 years of age and upwards in each area in 1936 are not yet available, and accordingly it is not possible to give the percentages asked for in the last portion of the Deputy's question.
Following is the tabular statement:—
Number of males paid (1) unemployment assistance and (2) unemployment insurance during the week preceding 25th January, 1937, and (3) total number of males on the live register on 25th January, 1937, and (4) percentage of each to the total number of males resident in each area on 27th April, 1936 (census figures).
