Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Intoxicating Liquor.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state (a) the quantities of beer, spirits, cider and foreign wines retained for home consumption in the calendar year 1936; (b) the number of liquor licences issued in Saorstát Eireann during the year ended 31st March, 1936; (c) the number of clubs in the Saorstát in the year ended 31st March, 1936; and (d) the amount of duty paid by them on intoxicating liquor during the year ended 31st March, 1936.

As regards (a), particulars are not available at present, but if the Deputy will repeat that part of his question early next month the information will be given. As regards (b), (c) and (d), the replies are as follows:—

(b) The number of liquor licences issued in Saorstát Eireann during the year ended the 31st March, 1936, was 16,023.

(c) The number of registered clubs in the Saorstát in respect of which "club duty" was paid in the year ended the 31st March, 1936, was 253.

(d) The amount of "club duty" paid by those registered clubs during the year ended the 31st March, 1936, was £2,230 3s. 6d.
