Vol. 65 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clara Condemned Houses.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the number of families living in condemned houses in the Clara (County Offaly) dispensary area; the number of new houses erected in the area since 1932, and the number of new houses in course of erection or sanctioned by his Department.

The information asked for by the Deputy is not classified in the Departmental records by reference to dispensary districts, and it has accordingly been necessary to consult the secretary to the county board of health. On the information supplied by him and that is available in the Department, the number of houses condemned by the medical officer of health for the Clara dispensary district is 166, of which about ten houses have more than one family residing therein. The number of new houses (a) erected since 1932 under the Labourers Acts is 30, (b) in course of construction 14, and (c) yet to be commenced 8. In addition, the board of health and public assistance have submitted proposals for the provision of 161 new cottages, but I am not yet in a position to state how many will eventually be sanctioned.
