Vol. 65 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Land in County Galway.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total area of land divided by the Land Commission in County Galway in the years 1933, 1934, 1935 and 1936, and the total number of new holdings created in each of the years mentioned.

The particulars desired by the Deputy as to the division of untenanted land in County Galway under the Land Acts 1923-36 are as follows:—

Calendar Year

Total Area Divided for New Holdings and Enlargements

Total Number of New Holdings Created

1933

6,788 acres

123

1934

7,957 ,,

59

1935

19,510 ,,

231

1936

6,130 ,,

136

The areas given are exclusive of lands taken over and divided by way of provisional lettings. The number of new holdings created include the various categories mentioned in Section 31 of the Land Act, 1923, and Section 33 of the Land Act, 1933, apart from enlargements of existing uneconomic holdings.

Mr. Brodrick

May I take it that the figures which the Minister has given would mean that about 600 holdings have been created in four years?

Mr. Boland

About that. The Deputy can tot up the figures. As I have said, that does not take into account the enlargement of existing holdings.
