Vol. 189 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Meath Lands.

24.

asked the Minister for Lands why eight acres were taken from the farm at Tymoole, Duleek, County Meath, which was formerly occupied by a Mr. Noone and are now given to a Mr. Griffin, both migrants; and why, if the farm given to Mr. Griffin was considered big enough, the eight acres were not given to some of the neighbouring farmers with a much smaller portion of land than that held by the man who actually got the additional land.

In March, 1959, a 56-acre holding at Timoole, on the former Brady estate, was allotted by the Land Commission to a Mr. Noone—an over-standard migrant—in exchange for lands aggregating 42 acres held by him. This exchange was subsequently cancelled at the allottee's request.

In re-disposing of the 56 acres, the Land Commission decided—in the absence of a suitable alternative over-standard migrant and as there was no local congestion within the prescribed distance—to allocate 48 acres thereof as a standard holding and to allot the remaining 8 acres to an adjoining allottee whose original allotment was not up to the standard of the remaining holdings created on the estate.

The 48-acre standard holding was accepted by and allotted in March last to a Mr. Griffin who had surrendered 36½ acres.
