Vol. 65 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Houses for Portarlington.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the date when proposals were first submitted to his Department by the Laoighis Board of Health for the provision of houses for Portarlington; the cause of the delay in sanctioning same, and if he is now in a position to indicate when approval of this scheme will be conveyed to the commissioner.

Proposals for the acquisition of building sites at Portarlington were received from the commissioner administering the affairs of the Laoighis Board of Health on 25th March last. The sites formed part of an agreement scheme for the erection of 150 cottages. On inspection they were found to be unsuitable, and the commissioner was so informed. On the 19th November last further proposals were received from the commissioner for the acquisition of three alternative sites. These sites were approved on the 22nd December last, and it is understood that the preparation of the proposed scheme is now in hands.
