Vol. 65 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of County Clare Lands.

Mr. Hogan

asked the Minister for Lands if representations have been made to the Irish Land Commission respecting the acquisition and distribution of ranch land in and about Lis-doonvarna, in the townlands of Ballyinsheen, Ballytigue, Ballygastle, Ballyconoe, Cooleamore, Gowlan and Bally-donohue, reaching a total of over 1,000 acres, and if, in consideration of the large number of landless men and uneconomic landholders in that district, he will take immediate steps to have this land acquired and distributed.

Representations have been made to the Land Commission regarding the acquisition of lands in the townlands mentioned by the Deputy. In the townland of Cooleamore an offer of the Land Commission to purchase 205 acres has been accepted by the owner, and in the other townlands there are at present approximately 600 acres under investigation or consideration with a view to acquisition and distribution. Steps are being taken to expedite as much as possible proceedings for acquisition of land for relief of congestion in the area in question.
