Vol. 66 No. 3

Written Answers. - Congestion in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that acute congestion exists in the townland of Meelick, Irishtown, County Mayo; that there are seven tenants with large families living in that townland whose valuations are under £4; that they have on several occasions during the past five years requested the Irish Land Commission to acquire the grazing and conacre farm held by Mrs. Ryan at Castlerea, Irishtown, for the purpose of providing economic holdings for them; and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire that farm and give those tenants additions to their holdings.

Mr. Boland

The question appears to refer to the residential holding of Mrs. Kate Ryan comprising an area of 286 acres of the lands of Castlereagh on the C.D.B. (Churcher) estate. The Land Commission propose to resume possession of a portion of this area.
