Vol. 66 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Index Price of Live Stock.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state why the annual price index of live stock as given in the Irish Trade Journal, March, 1936, for the years 1934 and 1935 is given as 66.9 and 65.9 respectively, and in the Irish Trade Journal for March, 1937, these figures have been revised to 76.0 and 74.9.

The revisions to which the Deputy refers, and to which attention was directed in the March 1937 issue of the Irish Trade Journal, were due to the fact that, through inadvertence, index numbers with base year 1931 (instead of the correct base period 1911-13) were inserted for the year 1934 and 1935 in the March 1936 issue of the Journal.

Is the idea that it would be a rather awkward thing to take the year 1931 as the year forming the index basis?

No. It would be the wrong year to take.
