Vol. 66 No. 6

Written Answers. - Congestion in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the Irish Land Commission acquired the holdings of land held by Michael Gavin, Cross, Kilmeena, and Patrick Berry, Driminabo, Kilmeena, and gave them exchanges for said holdings over seven years ago; that the vacated holdings are still grazed by the migrated tenants; that acute congestion exists in the vicinity, and if he will state when the Land Commission will divide these lands.

Mr. Boland

The completion of the two migrations in question has been delayed owing to the refusal of both the migrants to execute the necessary deeds of surrender in respect of their old holdings. In the case of Michael Gavin, it is proposed to complete the migration under the provisions of Sections 28 and 29 of the Land Act, 1931, and a vesting order to give effect to the exchange has been published. Efforts are being continued to induce Patrick Berry to effect the exchange of his holding. Schemes for the division of the old and new holdings will be put into operation as soon as practicable.
