Vol. 66 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Erosion of Rosslare Coast.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what action the Board of Works proposes to take in response to the representations of the Wexford County Council that a Commission should be appointed to inquire into the matter of serious coast erosion at Rosslare.

The Commissioners of Public Works have not received a request for the establishment of a Commission to investigate the question of coast erosion at Rosslare, but they have received a request from the Wexford county surveyor for an inspection of the area with a view to recommending the carrying out of protection works.

The problem of coast erosion is not one in regard to which the Commissioners have any powers or any duties.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be inclined to lend the services of his engineers to the county council in connection with the matter?

Legally, we have no power whatever to do so.
