Vol. 66 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Galway Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he will state what is the cause of the delay in the division of the McCartan estate, Abbert, Ballyglunin, County Galway.

The scheme for the division of the lands on the McCartan estate has not yet been finally settled, but it is hoped this will be done, and the scheme put into operation, at an early date.

Mr. Brodrick:

Is the Minister not aware that as far back as last December seven holdings were pointed out to tenants, and is he not also aware that in some of the cases the rent was practically fixed? Further, is he not aware that the lands are being set to a rancher from outside the county? These tenants appealed to the Land Commission as far back as January to be allowed to work their holdings in order to be able to keep their beet and potato contracts.

Mr. Boland:

This scheme appears to have given rise to some difficulties. I cannot now go further than to say that the scheme will be put into operation at an early date.

Mr. Brodrick:

Perhaps the Minister would have the matter investigated so that these tenants could be put into their holdings in view of the fact that spring work is passing and that it is a great injustice to have a rancher there from another county grazing the lands?

Mr. Boland:

I will convey that to the Land Commission.
