Vol. 66 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Congestion in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that acute congestion exists on the Dillon estate, in the townland of Crossbeg, Aghamore, County Mayo, where there are seven tenants whose poor law valuations are under £3 each; that there are three untenanted holdings in that townland; that the tenants requested the Irish Land Commission on several occasions during the past five years to resume those holdings for the relief of congestion; that the said holdings were inspected three times, and if he will state what steps, if any, are being taken by the Land Commission to acquire those lands for the purpose of providing economic holdings for the tenants on that estate.

Mr. Boland

The Land Commission have decided to institute proceedings for the acquisition of one holding of some 33 acres in the townland of Crossbeg.

The other holdings to which the Deputy refers in the townland of Crossbeg are of small area, from 6 acres to 12 acres each, and it is not proposed at present to acquire them.
