Vol. 67 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transfer of Overseer.

Mr. Hogan

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he received a petition signed by the colonists at Rathcarn, County Meath, to transfer the assistant agricultural overseer from the district, and whether he is prepared to comply with their request in the matter.

A petition signed by some of the colonists at Rathcarn, County Meath, making complaints against the assistant agricultural overseer located at the colony, and requesting that he should be transferred from the district, was received by the Department. The allegations made by the complainants were fully investigated by senior officers of the Department, whose inquiries revealed that the complaints were entirely unjustified and without foundation.

Since the colonists were installed at Rathcarn over two years ago they have received constant instruction and advice from the assistant agricultural overseer, and the stage has now been reached when they should require only occasional advice on special matters. The question whether the continuance of the existing arrangement of providing the services of a whole time officer is necessary in existing circumstances is at present under consideration.
