Vol. 67 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Trading Stamps.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the extent to which foreign firms dealing in trading stamps in the Saorstát use and advertise imported articles; whether he is aware that to meet the amount of the tariff imposed on these imported goods, the firms in question have required the public to increase the number of fourpenny collecting stamps affixed to each collecting book from 550 to 600; and, whether in view of the injury done to Irish industry by these practices, he is prepared to take steps to regulate the activities of the firms dealing in trading stamps.

The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the negative. If particulars of the injury being done to Irish industry by the practices referred to by the Deputy are furnished to me I will have the matter looked into.
