Vol. 69 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The Prices Commission.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will state (a) the total number of references made to the Prices Commission in regard to which the holding of a public inquiry was considered necessary; (b) the total number of investigations completed by the commission; (c) the total number of investigations in respect of which reports have been presented to him by the commission; (d) the number of such reports which were released for publication; (e) the number of investigations in regard to which no report was presented by the Prices Commission; (f) the number of reports submitted by the commission which have not been published, and the approximate dates at which it is expected these reports will be issued for publication.

The total number of references made to the Prices Commission in regard to which the holding of a public inquiry was considered necessary is 13; the total number of investigations completed by the commission is 11; the total number of investigations in respect of which reports have been presented to him by the commission is 11; the number of such reports which have been released for publication is nine; the number of investigations in regard to which no report has yet been presented by the Prices Commission is two, and the number of reports submitted by the commission which have not yet been published is two. I am not at present in a position to reply to the last part of the question.

Arising out of the Minister's answer, am I to take it that the only commodity for which prices have been fixed by the Minister has been bread?
