Vol. 69 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Labourers' Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether a scheme for the erection of a number of labourers' cottages at Finglas Bridge, Finglas, County Dublin, was submitted to him by the County Dublin Board of Public Health whether the scheme was sanctioned by him; whether 16 or 17 acres of land were acquired by the board of health for the purpose of erecting these cottages, and whether he is in a position to state why the scheme has been held up for a period of two years.

On the 5th October, 1935, I confirmed a compulsory purchase order submitted by the Dublin Board of Public Health for the acquisition of 16 acres and 9 perches of land at Finglas on which it was proposed to erect 40 cottages. No plans for these cottages were submitted to the Department. The board appear to have deferred consideration of the scheme pending arrangements being made with the Corporation of Dublin for a supply of water to Finglas, and final consideration of a proposal to acquire an additional ten acres adjoining the site they were authorised to acquire. In January, 1937, they submitted lay-out plans for the development of the entire area. The additional land has not yet been acquired. Amended plans for the development of the site and the erection of 158 cottages were submitted to the Department on the 17th September, and are ready for my approval as soon as arrangements for the acquisition of the additional ten acres are completed.
