Vol. 69 No. 6

Written Answers. - Westport-Achill Railway.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what steps, if any, have been taken by his Department in connection with the closing down of the railway line from Westport via Newport and Mulrany to Achill.

In 1935 the Great Southern Railways Company renewed an application originally made by them in 1934 for an Order under Section 9 of the Railways Act, 1933, authorising the discontinuance of all train services on the Westport-Achill section of their line. The statutory conditions precedent to the grant of such an Order having been fulfilled, the Order was made by me on the 24th September last.

Full consideration having been given to all the relevant factors prior to the making of the Order, no other steps in the matter have been or are required to be taken by my Department.
