Vol. 69 No. 16

Written Answers. - County Cork Drainage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is now in a position to authorise the execution of the minor drainage scheme at Kildee and Ballygurteen and Oakmount districts for which the Cork County Council undertakes to make a contribution.

The drainage scheme referred to in the question is reported to be one which cannot be economically carried out during the winter months.

The scheme was considered in connection with the programme of drainage schemes for last summer, but the unemployment position in the electoral division of Ballingurteen in which the work falls did not warrant the making of a grant at the time.

The scheme will again be considered on its merits in connection with any future programme of summer drainage schemes in competition with any other proposals for the same area and in the light of the unemployment position at the time, but it cannot be stated when the work will be carried out, if at all.
