Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Metropolitan District Courts.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of offences which have been dealt with by the Dublin Metropolitan District Courts during each of the past five years under the following heads:—(1) boys under 16 years of age; (2) girls under 16 years of age; (3) boys between the ages of 16 and 21; (4) girls between the ages of 16 and 21; (5) men over 21 years of age; (6) women over 21 years of age, and if he will state the number of persons in each such category who were (a) discharged under the Probation Act; (b) bound over; (c) put on probation; (d) imprisoned, and (e) sent to borstal or reformatories.

The answer is in the form of a table which will appear in the Official Report.

Following is the table:—

NOTES:—(1) As regards the reference in the question to the Borstal Institution, the District Court has no jurisdiction in this respect.

*(2) No information is available in regard to the number of persons between the ages of 16 and 21 years or over 21 years, who were discharged under the Probation of Offenders Acts, or bound over, but the number of persons over 16 years placed on probation in each of the years mentioned is given in the following Table:—

May I ask if, under subhead (e), the reply deals with the numbers of Juveniles sent to industrial schools as well as to borstal or reformatories?

I do not think so.

I suppose we can elicit that information by another question?
