Vol. 69 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - British Government and Constitution.

asked the Taoiseach if any official communications were received from the British Government respecting the Constitution of Eire other than the statements that appeared in the daily Press; and if he has any statement to make to the House on the reference made by the British Government to the effect that they were prepared to treat the Constitution as not effecting a fundamental alteration in the position of the Irish Free State.

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, except that the text of the statement made by the British Government and published in the Press of the 30th December was communicated to me beforehand.

With regard to the second part of the Deputy's question, I do not think that any statement is necessary.
