Vol. 70 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on School Books.

asked the Minister for Education if he is now in a position to state fully the measures already taken or contemplated, which are calculated to reduce the annual expenditure of children attending school on the provision of school books, and whether he will state further whether the proposals he has in view will include the supply of school requisites other than school books.

The measures already taken which are calculated to reduce the annual expenditure of parents in the provision of school books for their children are contained in the Department's circular of September, 1937, to managers and teachers of national schools. I am sending the Deputy a copy. Other proposals which may still further reduce this expenditure are being investigated, but I am not yet in a position to make any statement on the subject. The supply of school requisites for children is not contemplated.
