Vol. 70 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take the business as on the Order Paper, Nos. 1 and 2. If No. 1 be not finished before 6 o'clock, the business will be interrupted in order to take No. 2 and No. 1 will be resumed not later than 7 p.m. When the business as ordered is concluded, the Dáil will adjourn until 3 o'clock on next Wednesday, 16th February.

I suppose there is no use in reopening the question of the desirability of a longer adjournment after to-night. We understood the Government proposed to adjourn for some weeks after next week. We suggested that the next stage of the Shops Bill should be left over until after the adjournment, but the Minister for Industry and Commerce objected. I wondered if the events of yesterday and the way in which this Bill was dealt with would induce him now to change his mind and leave the next stage of the Conditions of Employment Bill over until after the longer adjournment.

I think that from every point of view it is very desirable to get these Bills enacted before we adjourn.
