Vol. 70 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Postal Services in East Cork Areas.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if in November, 1937, he received a petition from the farmers and residents of the sub-postal district of Donoughmore comprising 80 houses in the townlands of Pluckanes, Gurrane, Tornaught, Runkilla, Ballyvodane, Knockane and Firmount requesting a daily postal delivery service, and if in view of the fact that in this area pig feeding is extensively carried on, and that the absence of a daily postal delivery causes considerable inconvenience and loss by the late delivery of letters after the period for delivery of pigs has expired, he is prepared to extend the delivery of letters daily to every district in the area.

The petition referred to by the Deputy was duly received and acknowledged. The provision of a delivery on each week-day in the townlands mentioned would entail substantial expense and the postal service in the area would in consequence be maintained at a loss. In the circumstances, I regret that compliance with the request would not be warranted.
