Vol. 70 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seed Oats.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he will consider applications for licences to import seed oats from Northern Ireland in cases where the desirability of new stock seed is manifest or where supplies of suitable seed oats are not available.

Applications of the nature referred to are being considered and licences have already been issued, in a large number of cases, to individual growers who furnish with their applications guarantees from the suppliers as to trueness of name or variety and germination of the seed oats proposed to be imported.

Any individual farmer who submits an application to get suitable seed oats from an outside area, will his application be favourably considered?

If the farmer requires pedigree seed in order to renew his stock I think he will not be refused a moderate amount for his own use.
