Vol. 70 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sewerage of Cork Village.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health whether he is aware that in the village of Cloyne, County Cork, sewage is carried in open drains within a few yards of the houses in Church Lane; that the health of the town is menaced because of the absence of a proper sewerage system and whether he is prepared to inquire into the matter immediately with a view to having a proper sewerage system installed.

I am aware that the South Cork Board of Public Health have been advised by their engineer and by the county medical officer of health that the sewerage arrangements in Cloyne are defective. The board decided on the 18th May last to undertake certain sewerage improvement works for the village, but no details of the proposals have yet been submitted to my Department. I have communicated with the board of health on the matter and I understand that the improvement scheme is now in course of preparation.
