I move:—
Go ndeontar suim ná raghaidh thar £75,000 chun slánuithe na suime is gá chun íoctha an Mhuirir a thiocfaidh chun bheith iníoctha i rith na bliana dar críoch an 31adh lá de Mhárta, 1939, chun Deolchairí agus Conganta Airgid um Easportáil.
That a sum not exceeding £75,000 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending the 31st day of March, 1939, for Export Bounties and Subsidies.
Deputies will observe that the revised Estimate under this head now circulated provides for a substantial reduction on this Vote. The reduction is due to the operation of the Trade Agreement between Great Britain and this Government, in so far as bounties were provided for to offset the British duties. It is necessary, however, to provide export bounties on certain of our agricultural exports, even as they stand. These are principally dairy produce, eggs, seed potatoes and, during a certain period of the year, fat cattle. A considerable portion provided for agricultural produce was for the period before the 19th May, the date on which the Agreement with Great Britain came into force. In fact something over £300,000 covers that period, and the remainder would be necessary to pay bounties on dairy produce, eggs and seed potatoes. In the case of the cattle export bounty that was only payable from the 1st April to the 15th June. No provision is made in this Estimate for a bounty on fat cattle in the coming winter. If it is desirable there will be a Supplementary Estimate brought in here in the Dáil later.
